|A - Half-day tours (HDT)|
Step back into ancient times through the Roman forum, the Fora of Caesar Augustus and Trajan, the Capitol, Colosseum and Palatine hill and let the magic of ancient Rome cast its spell. Your imagination will take you around an exciting journey to history.
You will walk leisurely along the galleries of the Vatican Museums, seeing Botticelli,
Perugino, Signorelli, Pinturicchio and Michelangelo's masterpieces
in the Sistine Chapel and to Rapael's magnificent decoration of Julius
II's apartment. The imposing sight of St. Peter's square and Bramante's
basilica are as overwhelming as the treasures inside. Michelangelo's
Pietà, most tender image ever carved out of a block of marble, the
harmony and grace of Michelangelo's dome, the spectacular Bernini's
decorations and sculptures, all contribute to a memorable experience.
The ancient Appian way was the first and the most important of the consular
roads built by Romans and was wanted by the censor Appius Claudius to link
Rome to Capua. Rightly called the “regina viarum” ( the queen
of the roads). It witnessed the thriumph of the Roman Emperors and houses
their burial places as well as the well known catacombs of the first Christians.
Best preserved example of an ancient commercial city, Ostia Antica was
the river and sea harbour of ancient Rome. Founded in the 4th century
BC, grew to become the empire prominent port.
